Kendari City is the capital of Southeast Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. Known as the City of Lulo, which is taken from the name of the traditional dance of the Tolaki tribe, Kendari has existed since the 19th century as the capital of the Kingdom of Laiwoi. Indonesian and European sailors have known Kendari as a stopover route for sea trade to and from Ternate or Maluku. In ancient Portuguese cartography, at the beginning of the 15th century, it has been shown that there was a village on the East Coast of Celebes or Sulawesi called Citta dela Baia on the coast of a bay called Baia du Tivora, which is identical to Kendari Bay. In the old oral literature of the Tolaki tribe, the Kendari Bay area is called Lipu I Pambandahi, Wonua I Pambandokooha, one of the east coast areas of the Konawe Kingdom.
